"Trick Riding"  by Sharon K. Hunt

Barrel Racer

by

Bernard Price

Rodeo’s ain’t just for cowboys

Cowgirls also do their part,

Riding hard in the barrel race

Those gals are never faint of heart.

The crowd will loudly cheer

As she makes her run,

Although she races for a prize

Also finds it so much fun.

Sometimes she may win

And sometimes she may lose,

To be a well known cowgirl

She gladly pays her dues.

But if perchance she wins today

And out does all the rest,

The rousing cheers from fans

Proclaims she is the best.

Her family’s waiting at the gate

A most supportive crew,

The daughter she loves dearly

Hopes to be a cowgirl too.

And so she carries on

Enjoys the challenge of the day,

Hopes the time she must retire

Will be very far away.
