As Good As Any Man
Not enough is written
About the cowgirls of the past,
Pictures tell their story
And make the memories last.
Some could ride and rope
As good as any man,
A favorite one was Prairie Rose
And I became a fan.
Wearing those fancy costumes
She created on her own,
Soon was very popular
As she became well known.
A very skilled competitor
At each event she tried,
Rode her horse with daring
From a challenge never shied.
Won her share of prizes
As she did her best,
To show that cowgirls do belong
In rodeos out west.
From town to town they travelled
Like cowboys on the road,
A life that wasn’t easy
And sometimes quite a load.
They also wrote great poems
Read as man as I could,
Only wish that some of mine
Were even half as good.
So gals when you compete
Do everything you can,
To show that cheering crowd
You’re as good as any man.
